Founder’s Expertise & Background

Scott Safety Services Ltd

Origins & Growth

Scott Safety Services Ltd is owned and operated by David Scott.

David started working within safety and consultancy in the year 2000 as an asbestos analyst and surveyor, having previously worked for ICI in technical roles which included long periods of overseas work.

Under the development and instruction of some industry experts, he progressed onto licensed removal site management (as a senior surveyor and analyst for various UKAS accredited companies) and large-scale management (in Quality and Technical Management Capacities) of survey projects which included large industrial sites over 1000,000 square feet and various local authority contracts developing asbestos management plans and site assessments of domestic and commercial buildings.

Expansion into Water Hygiene & Fire Risk Services

During this time, David started developing experience and qualifications in water hygiene and fire risk services and the development of general safety services.

In 2008 David started his first asbestos consultancy – A.D. Scott Asbestos Consultancy Ltd.

Within the first year, UKAS accreditation was earned to ISO 17020. Being one of the quickest companies to gain this prestigious accreditation.

AD Scott’s offered all types of asbestos services including training, surveying, project management, asbestos removal, fire risk assessments and legionella assessments. The business developed rapidly gaining a client base which included many very well-known multinational high street names and businesses. In the years up to 2012 David and the growing team gained Constructionline Membership and Safe Contractor Membership. CHAS and ISO 9001.

Transition to Think Asbestos Ltd

In 2012, due to commercial pressure, David went through the arduous assessment process to become a licensed asbestos removal contractor, the license was granted, and an unrestricted Asbestos License was issued by the Health and Safety Executive. This was under the name Think Asbestos Ltd.

The team grew to 25 permanent employees having only consisted of David working from home in 2008.

The largest project Think Asbestos Ltd undertook was the remediation of a 43-acre site in Teesside which had formerly been a large-scale industrial upper-tier COMAH site– This was a 3-year project and included surveying, sampling and controlled removal of asbestos from contaminated land and buildings.

Amalgamation into Insight Safety Ltd

Think Asbestos Ltd also worked on local authority contracts with asbestos removal projects and surveying, building local authority databases, and the portfolio of services continued to develop.

In 2015, Think Asbestos Ltd and A D Scott Asbestos Consultancy Ltd were amalgamated into the same company – Insight Safety Ltd (ISL). ISL provided the same core services to clients and extended into broader safety until March 2023 when the business was closed due to personal issues with David.
